We chose 369 Surf Shop, and it was outstanding from start to finish. My daughter and I booked a private lesson and were paired with local surfing legend Ricky. He handled everything—surfboards, wetsuits, instruction, and finding the perfect break where it was just the three of us for 90 minutes. The entire experience was low-pressure, high-fun, and incredibly personalized. The highlight of the day was watching Ricky perfectly time a wave, give my daughter a push, and seeing her ride it all the way to shore with the biggest smile on her face. That’s a memory I’ll carry for the rest of my life. If you’re going to invest in surf lessons, invest in someone who knows the local breaks, has decades of experience, and genuinely cares about giving you a great experience—not just getting you into the water. I found Matt at 369 after a previously booked beginner lesson with another surf school was canceled due to dangerous surf. While Matt didn’t have any availability for a lesson... read more that day on short notice he set me up with a rental board and wetsuit, took me to a safe spot for beginners, and gave me all the basics I needed to get up on the board. I had a blast and it was a perfect and memorable first time surfing. Not only that but Matt is a lifelong resident of San Clemente area and is great source of info if you don’t know the area well. He loves his city, he loves what he does, and loves sharing that with visitors. Will 100% be back to see him again on our next trip to SoCal.
