Best lessons for all ages and experience
I came to 369 as a beginner surfer wanting to get out of the whitewater and onto real waves. They fit me in for a same-day private guide service with Ricky, an experienced local surfer. After sizing me up with a wetsuit and board and running through the basics, we headed to a quiet local break for about two hours. By the end I’d gone from catching whitewater to dropping into 2–3 ft waves on my own!
They even let me keep the gear for an extra hour and gave me a discount on a longboard I rented from the shop. Plus, they shared some awesome local surf spots for later sessions. The whole crew is friendly, laid-back, and really knows their stuff. Seriously, this is the spot.
First time surfing
10/10, can’t recommend the guys at 369 enough. The whole process was super simple, and our surf guide Ricky really made us feel super safe and confident. Matt, the owner, is a great dude and even dropped us off at our vacation rental after the lesson. If you’re new to surfing or have never tried, give these guys a call– you won’t regret it.

I am a travel surfer as I don’t live near an ocean and I’m just learning. I have a lot of ocean experience and know how dangerous it can be to approach a break you don’t know or understand and how important it is to know what’s going on, the swell and the weather. The guys were so nice to us and so good at assessing our skill level and their local knowledge got us to waves that weren’t super crowded and perfect for us. The surfing was rad and the guys were so nice and super stoked which made us feel the same. Could not recommend more highly. A close second to the surfing guide and experience where the taco and burrito recommendations. So good!

Awesome surf guide with Ricky this morning! I have surfed a decent amount through the years in many parts of the world and done a lot of lessons and this was one of my favorite surf sessions ever!
The spot was perfect for sandy bottom 2–3 foot waves and my skill level (advanced beginner) and I caught like 35 small wave and had a great time! Going early in the morning was a great choice. The owner Matt was great too and dropped us off at the spot and picked us up later.

Matt is a local legend and will put you in the spot you are ready for! San Clemente is full of spots, but if you are from out of town and are unfamiliar, It’s definitely intimidating. Matt will make sure you make the most of your time. Ricky (surf guide) was total character, and shreds, and made sure I got as many waves as I could handle!
rented a couple of boards for a few days while we were in town. 369 SURF delivered the boards to our hotel and picked up a few days later. very convenient and the pricing was very reasonable.
My bunch of kids had Matt and Rick today. Two of them have never been to California or the US at all. This experience gave them warm fuzzies about the coast and surfing. They were very caring about the kids having a good time and building up confidence on the boards. I live a ways away, but we’re coming back to 369SURF.
Matt is a great guy. Rented me a brand new board, gave me some tips on great places to surf, was flexible around pick up and drop off. Very easy to deal with. Great experience and would definitely recommend
.Thank you so much!!!! When I called to book a lesson I spoke to Matt and said that I wanted to surf real waves (no white wash). I had tried surfing before and was quite pathetic. Haha. He took me to the perfect spot and the lesson was so much fun! I still can’t believe I was surfing and cutting across green waves so fast. When I would look back at Matt, he was always cheering and looked almost as thrilled as me. He’s a super fun and nice guy. I have now scored a cheap beginner board off Craigslist and have been going out every day I can. Yay, Thanks again!
Last year in October, I was lucky to get to rent a surfboard with which I was very happy. The epoxy board was an interesting shape, sort of a miniature longboard but nothing like a minimal. Delivery & pick up was super convenient and I can highly recommend renting a surfboard from Surf Skate Supply.
Seth and Grant were great! Our surf time was 8:00 and they were totally prepared and ready for us. We had 3 teens and they were catching waves right away. Great business and easy to work with! The guys were cool, relatable and fun not to mention, knew how to teach surfing!
Visiting San Clemente I was in hopes to getting out to go surfing. I found him on Yelp and he offered really good deals on boards and wet suits. We rented from him 5 or 6 different days and was very helpful and kind. We actually ended becoming friends! Overall I give him a 5 star review because he saved us money rather than renting from surf shops and he gave us a lot of tips and pointers about surfing. He also showed us some great places around town and where all the good surf breaks were. Thanks!
What an awesome experience! I’ve been surfing for a few years and my wife has really taken an interest lately, so we capitalized on the left coast (California) while enjoying our 10 year anniversary. We found 369 on their website about a month prior to our arrival. Not only were they very responsive to our calls, they put us on the best boards for this wave, and gave us directions to the hot spots. My wife had her lesson with Ricky and by the time her 2 hour lesson was over, she was dropping faces and cutting lines; like a pro! They delivered boards, hooked up our vehicle with racks, and told us all the good spots for local cuisine and brews! Thanks guys, we will be back!
I had the most incredible experience with 369 Surf and can’t recommend them enough. I recently moved to California to start a new job as a dentist near San Clemente and wanted to finally learn how to surf. I called Matt on a Friday just asking about surfboard rentals, and he completely went above and beyond.
Not only did he get me set up with the perfect board, but he also arranged private lessons and even connected me with full wetsuits for insanely affordable prices. Ricky was my instructor and he was phenomenal — patient, encouraging, and incredibly knowledgeable. He taught me so much and genuinely set me up to be able to go out and surf on my own with confidence.
Matt and Ricky didn’t just give lessons — they welcomed me into the surf community, hooked me up with great local connections, and made the whole experience feel effortless and fun. Made my extended weekend stay in San Clemente just fabulous!First, he arranged a lesson with John, who was an excellent instructor and also a fount of local knowledge.
At the end of one lesson, I understood where to surf for my level, the sight lines to the beach for the breaks, and I felt confident enough to rent the same equipment and get out there on the water for the next 3 days.
Matt was super organized and professional in his communications – recommend to start be giving him a call when you want to surf in San Clemente area! He had excellent follow up at every stage over text.
