Birthday Waves – What a great way to spend your 14th Birthday. Dude caught a ton of waves and learned some good surf etiquette. Definitely worth hanging out with these local friendlies for the morning.

Beware of the parking lot sales pitches. If you’re looking to stand up on a surfboard for the very first time and catch some sweet California waves, take the time to book with a local surf shop that specializes in teaching.

We chose 369 Surf Shop, and it was outstanding from start to finish. My daughter and I booked a private lesson and were paired with local surfing legend Ricky. He handled everything—surfboards, wetsuits, instruction, and finding the perfect break where it was just the three of us for 90 minutes.

The entire experience was low-pressure, high-fun, and incredibly personalized. The highlight of the day was watching Ricky perfectly time a wave, give my daughter a push, and seeing her ride it all the way to shore with the biggest smile on her face. That’s a memory I’ll carry for the rest of my life.
